How To Keep Your Furniture Upholstery Looking Great

One of the best ways to keep your furniture looking good is to take good care of your upholstery. This is the part of your furniture that is seen the most and suffers the most wear. While some wear and tear may be unavoidable, there are certain things that you can do to keep your furniture upholstery looking great. Here are four ways you can do this.

Use A Steam Cleaner

Regular cleaning can go a long way in terms of keeping your upholstery free of stains. An excellent cleaner to use on your upholstery is a steam cleaner. The steam cleaner is great because it uses steam to extract any dirt, debris, or stains from the upholstery. Also, because it is using steam instead of water, you don't have to worry about waiting long periods of time for your furniture to dry. A lot of steam cleaners just work with water and steam, which also reduces the risk of chemicals and cleaners potentially damaging the fabric.

Rotate Your Cushions

If your furniture has removable cushions, you should do your best to rotate these from one side to another regularly. By doing this, you help to make sure that each side of the cushion is used equally. This stops one side from wearing out and getting holes earlier than expected. It can also help to reduce the build-up of stains and dirt on one side or the other.

Cover The Furniture

If you have young children, pets, or simply a lot of company, then you may want to consider even covering your upholstery with some kind of furniture cover. This protects the upholstery from pet hair, greasy fingers, foods, drinks, and more. You can often find furniture covers that look great, so you can still love the way that your furniture looks. If you'd like to go above and beyond, you can even have furniture covers custom-made to go over each individual cushion and throw pillow.

Vacuum It Out

Dirt and dust are likely building up in the fibers of your upholstery. This dirt may not be seen at first, but if the fabric were to get wet, it would bring this dirt and dust into view and could even create a dark spot. A great way to remove this dirt between steam cleanings is to vacuum your furniture. Using a small vacuum, or a handle extension on your vacuum, gets the job done well and makes the process quick and easy.

Using a steam cleaner, rotating your cushions, purchasing a furniture cover, and vacuuming out your furniture regularly are all great ways to keep your upholstery looking great.

About Me

Choosing Quality Furniture: Tips After I moved into my new apartment, I was eager to get it furnished quickly, so I just went to the local furniture store and just chose a few pieces I liked the appearance of. Within a year, my sofa cushions became very uncomfortable and one of my bedroom dresser drawers broke. I learned the tough lesson that you should not choose your furniture based on appearance alone. Soon, I began performing research on how to choose quality furniture. I then chose a new sofa and dresser that I decided was good quality based on my research, and I am happy to say that they are still in perfect shape after five years! I am eager to share what I learned about furniture when conducting my research with anyone who needs the help on my new blog!
