A lot of mattress stores have pads right in the store, so you can simply ask to have one put on the bed. If the pad adds the perfect level of softness and cushion to the firm mattress, then you can feel confident in your decision to purchase it. You could also purchase that pad if you like, or you can use one from home. 

By taking the time to really lay on each mattress in the store, bringing your spouse along to test out mattresses with you, and adding a pad to a bed you feel may be best, you make sure you are getting the perfect queen sized mattress.
